Mary Sylvester LMFT

I have a particular interest in supporting my clients with discovering and utilizing their often undervalued personal and professional strengths!

About Me

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) practicing on the San Francisco peninsula. I have an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University. I completed my graduate level internships in the Palo Alto School District working with elementary age children and their families and at Kara providing emotional counseling for those who are grieving.
Life is not a clear and straight path for most of us and I am no exception. I believe my diverse background enriches my work. Prior to my work in mental health I was an attorney working with low-income families and individuals facing critical survival issues as well as a specialist in child development and child welfare at the Packard Foundation. In both positions, I learned the role that one’s early life experiences has on the trajectory of their life and how vital healthy relationships are for the quality of one’s life.

In my role as an attorney as in my therapy practice, the focus of my work has been empowering my clients to value their strengths and abilities. I specialize in working with adult individuals who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, grief and loss, women’s issues, and the frustration of feeling stuck or conflicted.

I deeply enjoy my work and consider it a privilege to work with my clients!
